Aura Go
Described as "a captivating performer… possessing great depth and exquisite sensitivity" (The Scotsman, August 2010) and praised for her "lyricism and sensuality, precision of touch, and beautifully controlled tone" (Resonate, November 2008), Australian pianist Aura Go has quickly emerged as one of her country's foremost young musicians. Aura has been concerto soloist with the Melbourne and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, performed at the 2005 and 2006 Melbourne International Arts Festivals, the 2009 MSO Metropolis Series and the 2010 Edinburgh Festival. Her interest in new music has seen her give the first Australian performance of the 1st and 2nd Piano Concertos of Rautavaara, a performance of the Schnittke Concerto for Piano and Strings, the Gubaidulina Concerto 'Introitus' and solo piano works of Galina Ustvolskaya. Aura's commitment to Australian music has led to the creation of new work for her by composers such as Gordon Kerry, James Rushford and Ian Munro, and she has performed works by Australian composers such as Ross Edwards, Peter Sculthorpe, Elena Kats Chernin, Helen Gifford, Julian Yu and Katy Abbott.
In 2002, 2003 and 2006 Aura was a National Keyboard Finalist in Symphony Australia's Young Performers Awards. She was the winner of the 5th Yamaha Australian Youth Piano Competition in 2001 and the Hephzibah Menuhin Memorial Award in 2000. In 2009, Aura was a multiple prize winner at the Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. She has is supported by the Australia Council Development Fund and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust.
As a conductor, Aura has worked several times with the Melbourne, Adelaide and Queensland Symphony Orchestras and Orchestra Victoria as part of the Symphony Australia Conductor Development Program and has conducted the Australian National Academy of Music and Victorian College of the Arts Orchestras in concerts broadcast on ABC Classic FM.
Aura attained her Bachelor of Music degree from the Victorian College of the Arts in Australia before continuing her studies at the Australian National Academy of Music, where she worked with Ian Munro and Michael Kieran Harvey. Aura is currently studying with Peter Frankl at the Yale School of Music, where she is undertaking postgraduate studies.
Upcoming engagements for this season include performances as soloist with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria in piano concerti of Mozart, a recording of the complete four-hand and two-piano music of Japanese composers Akira Miyoshi and Akio Yashiro with duo partner Tomoe Kawabata, and solo recitals in Australia.
