Jiayan Sun
Jiayan Sun was born in Yantai, Shandong, China in 1990. He began to study piano at the age of six.
In September 2002, he auditioned into The Music Middle School attached to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. He studied with Prof. Jin Zhang.
In May 2004, he won the first prize in the First International Seiler Piano Competition for young pianists in Greece. In September 2004, he won the fifth prize in the Fourth Moscow International Frederick Chopin Competition for young pianists. In November 2004, he was awarded the thirteenth Chengxian Fu memorial scholarship of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.
In August 2005, he won the first prize in the Second National Concerto Competition for young instrumentalists in Beijing, China. He performed Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1 with the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing Concert Hall subsequently. In April 2006, he performed Rachmaninoff Concerto No.2 with Chinese National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing University Concert Hall.
In September 2006, he auditioned into The Juilliard School Pre-college Division in New York with full scholarships. He studied with Ms. Victoria Mushkatkol.
In March 2007, he won the second prize in the Friday Woodmere Music Club Young Artists Competition in New York. In June 2007, he won the Nordmann Scholarship Piano Competition in The Juilliard School. In May 2008, he graduated from The Juilliard School Pre-college Division with the achievement award. He currently studies in the bachelor's degree program of The Juilliard School with full scholarships under the tutelage of Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky. In November 2009, he organized and performed a concert in tribute to the great German conductor, Wilhelm Furtwangler, in the Juilliard School. In November 2010, he won the first prize in the First CCC Toronto International Piano Competition.
He has performed in the world renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York. He has performed many times in The Juilliard School, included participation in the ChamberFest and the performances of Chopin's 24 Etudes. He has performed frequently in New York, Beijng, Taipei, among others. He has performed with Chinese National Symphony Orchestra, Chinese Youth Symphony Orchestra, Shandong Symphony Orchestra, Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, etc. His performances had been broadcasted on the CCTV.
